What is Thermal Imaging?
- Thermography involves using a thermal imaging device to take photographs of various assets. Thermal imaging devices can be permanently installed sensors (for example thermocouples), or handheld infrared temperature guns and infrared thermography cameras. Images captured using this type of equipment show temperature hotspots and highlight potential defect areas.
- This type of testing provides a quantitative approach to establishing the health of assets. It is sensitive to various stage defects on most applications and can indicate conditions of overload or over-speed. It is also complimentary and often used in conjunction with other condition monitoring techniques to track changes in degrading components
